Biography

Award-winning British director Alicia MacDonald has an impressive body of work that spans film, TV, commercials and short films. She’s established herself as a director with a sharp sense of humour, a thorough approach to casting and a fun flair for crafting nuanced and memorable pieces of work.

Having worked with global leading brands such as McDonalds, Walkers, Toyota, Jaguar and Google (to name but a few), Alicia has a stellar reputation. Her airline safety film for TUI – ‘Safety: A Global Film’ – gained industry recognition at this year’s British Arrows and was listed in Campaign’s Top 5 Ads of the Year. Her work has also been recognised by Kinsale Sharks and her short films ‘Bad News’ and ‘Domestic Policy’ won Gold at the Young Director Awards and played in the New Creators’ Showcase at Cannes Lions, respectively.

Recently, Alicia directed an episode and co-exec produced Lena Dunham’s acclaimed ‘Too Much’ for Netflix, starring Will Sharpe, Meg Stalter, Andrew Scott and Naomi Watts. She also directed episodes of Amazon Prime’s British comedy crime-thriller ‘The Outlaws’, starring Stephen Merchant, Christopher Walken and Jessica Gunning. Alicia has just finished up the post production on her debut feature film, a romantic comedy (produced by Working Title Films and Focus Features) which is due to air in cinemas in 2026.
